An MVP is not a cheap version of the product. It is the fastest way to find out if you are building the right one.
The term has been misused into meaninglessness, so here is the working definition.
Minimum is the smallest scope that lets a real user complete the one job your product exists to do, end to end. If they can start it but not finish it, it is not minimum, it is incomplete.
Viable means it works. It is secure, it handles payments properly, it does not fall over, and you would not be embarrassed to put a paying customer on it. Viable is a quality bar, not a discount.
Cut features, not quality. One complete thing beats five half-built ones.
The confusion is that people hear minimum and cut quality. The cut belongs in scope. Feature prioritisation is the whole discipline: fewer features, all of them finished.
You can build an MVP in weeks rather than quarters, but only if the foundations already exist. Ours do.
Roughly 10 weeks of work every product needs, and no customer ever praises, arrives on day one.
Baseline is Devika’s own framework, refined across more than 150 launches. On an MVP its value is time rather than features: the parts of week 1 to week 10 that are identical in every product are already written, tested and in production elsewhere, so the calendar starts at the part that is specific to you.
They are often used as synonyms. They are not the same thing, and confusing them wastes money.
A prototype tests whether it makes sense. An MVP tests whether they will pay.
Many projects run both in sequence. Prototype to sharpen the idea and secure the funding, MVP to test the market. An MVP for startups carries a second job beyond product validation. It has to be fundable.
Investors have seen every pitch deck. What moves a conversation is a live product, real usage data, and ideally revenue. An MVP that trades, even modestly, changes the question from would this work to how fast can this grow. That matters whether you are raising pre-seed or a seed round.
That is not theoretical. EZShip’s founders were generating commercial revenue from their first iteration.

You will. That is the point. The MVP tells you which ones, based on what users actually do rather than what everyone assumed. Post-launch iteration is planned from the start.

It depends on complexity, but it is a defined, scoped number rather than an open-ended engagement. After scoping we quote a fixed band with the assumptions documented, and you will know that band before you commit.
You own the application code, the data and the infrastructure outright on completion. The Baseline components underneath it are licensed to you perpetually, irrevocably and royalty-free, with no ongoing fee and no restriction on modifying, extending or selling the product built on them.
