No Limits to Education – Aimee Zhang

Chief Editor of the Handbook of Mobile Teaching and Learning Aimee Zhang is an exceptional researcher, unafraid to delve into emerging technologies and investigate their benefits for education. This is particularly evident in the recent publication of a virtual reality research paper for Devika Kolb.
When Zhang was asked why she became involved in academia, her response was,
“People are lucky if they can find their destiny career in their first job. Thanks to University of Wollongong and my supervisor, Charles Harvie, who helped me find mine in my third career.
“Teaching is not only a way of knowledge transferring, but also giving, sharing, and interacting with students. This is the easiest way to make the world a better place – by helping others and improving yourself every day. To understand the real meaning of education, you have to try it, love it and enjoy it.”
Having Impact as an Educator
“As the chief editor of the Handbook of Mobile Teaching and Learning, I have been collaborating and learning from more than 100 researchers and educators from 21 countries. It was an amazing and brilliant project to give all of us the opportunity to learn and work with each other and share our knowledge with all the researchers, educators and developers around the world.
“We identified all the advantages and disadvantages in online and mobile teaching and learning; collected data from global empirical projects; enhanced teaching and learning processes through all those findings.
“As mentioned above, educators have to learn, improve, and grow with the students to make education meaningful and better.”
A Future of Immersive Education
When we asked Zhang what the future of technology and education might look like, she shared:
“Technology can not work by itself in education. Online and mobile learning are integrated systems including proper design, development, implementation, and enhancement. They require all the managers, educators, designers, developers, testers, and users’ (students and parents’) understanding, involvement, contribution and collaboration.
“Technology in education is similar to chalk and blackboard. To make a difference, you have to have a person that can understand it, appreciate it, make a good use of it, and enhance it by doing. It is the people, not the technology itself, that makes education better.”
