UI/UX design services Australia
Every drop-off is a decision you lost.
Somewhere in your product there is a screen where users stop. Devika designs the interfaces that remove the reasons people give up, with design and engineering in the same team.
That screen is costing you money right now, and nobody can name it
Users were interested enough to get that far. They intended to continue. Something in front of them made continuing feel harder than leaving.
Design is not decoration applied at the end. It is the discipline of removing the reasons people give up. Our design team works across Sydney and Wollongong, embedded with our engineers rather than handing work over to them, which is why our designs get built as designed.
Say it in one line
Every drop-off point is a customer who wanted to continue and found it too hard.
Start with the audit
If you already have a product, the fastest thing we can do for you is not a redesign. It is a UX audit against your own analytics.
We review your funnel data and session recordings, run the core tasks ourselves, check the interface against WCAG 2.2, and give you a written list of the friction points ordered by what each one is costing you. You get the document whether or not you engage us for the work.
Most clients are surprised by which screen turns out to be the expensive one. It is rarely the one the internal debate has been about.
UI and UX: the difference, properly
The terms get bundled together and the distinction is genuinely useful.
UX, or user experience, is structure and sequence. What steps exist, in what order, what information is needed when, and what happens when something goes wrong. UX decisions are made in flow diagrams and wireframes, long before anything looks like anything.
UI, or user interface, is the surface. Layout, typography, colour, spacing, motion and states. UI is what makes a product feel trustworthy and considered, and it does real work, because visual hierarchy is how people know what to do next without reading.
Plain English. UX is whether the door is in the right place. UI is whether it is obvious it is a door.
Good UI on bad UX gets you a beautiful product people abandon. Good UX on bad UI gets you a functional product people do not trust. Both matter, and they are not interchangeable.

UX design to increase conversions
This is not a matter of taste. It is a measurable practice.
Find where they leave.
Analytics and session data show the exact steps where users stop. Data-driven design is usually the fastest return available in any digital product, and it is frequently ignored because it is diagnostic work rather than creative work.
Reduce the cost of each step.
Every field, click, decision and moment of uncertainty is a small tax. Cut the ones that are not earning their place. The most effective conversion work is usually subtraction.
Handle failure well.
Error states, empty states, loading states and edge cases are where trust is won or lost, and they are the first thing cut from a design scope. A clear error message recovers a user. A vague one loses them.
Make the next action obvious.
At any point a user should know what to do next without deliberating. Ambiguity is friction wearing a disguise.
Test, do not argue.
Where reasonable people disagree, run it with users. Five sessions will settle most internal debates faster and more cheaply than three meetings.
Say it in one line
Conversion design is mostly subtraction. The best result is a shorter journey, not a prettier one.
UI/UX design for mobile apps
Mobile operates under constraints web design does not have, and designers who have not shipped mobile routinely miss them.
The thumb defines the layout.
Primary actions belong in the lower third. Top-corner buttons on a large phone are a genuine reach problem.
Platform conventions are trust signals.
iOS and Android users have different learned expectations for navigation, back behaviour and gestures. Fighting them costs you more than consistency gains you.
Interruption is the default state.
Mobile users are queueing, walking or half-watching something. Sessions are short and resumption must be effortless.
Assume the network is bad.
Loading states, offline behaviour and optimistic updates are core design work, not engineering afterthoughts.
Onboarding decides
retention. Most abandonment happens in the first session. If value is not visible before an account is required, you have lost most of them.
Design for mobile runs alongside our mobile app development work, in the same team and the same sprint cycle.
UI/UX design services for web apps
Web apps solve a different problem: complexity that grows over time. They accumulate features, user types, permissions and edge cases. Without deliberate information architecture, they turn into a navigation menu with 40 items and a support queue full of where do I find.
Our approach is role-based interfaces. Different users need different products, and the fastest usability gain in most business software is showing each person only what their job requires. Circolo's platform does exactly this, with event organisers and team members seeing genuinely different views of the same system.
Add to that a design system, meaning a documented library of components, patterns and rules, so the product stays coherent as it grows and your engineers stop rebuilding the same button. On custom software builds this pays for itself around the third new feature.
Say it in one line
Show each person only what their job needs. It is the cheapest usability win in business software.
Product design services, end to end
Design at Devika covers the full arc: research and stakeholder interviews, customer journey mapping, information architecture, user flows, lo-fi and hi-fi prototypes, high-fidelity UI, design systems, brand and identity work, usability testing, accessibility against WCAG 2.2, and handover specs our engineers build straight from. The practice sits on design thinking as a working method rather than a slogan.
Because design and engineering sit in the same team, there is no translation loss between the file and the shipped product. What is designed is what gets built.

HopStep
Aged care recruitment, friction-free UI
Deliberately designed around a swipe pattern users already knew, in a sector historically slow to adopt technology where any learning curve would have killed adoption. The result was an interface staff could use on a first attempt without training.
Sunee for Sarah's Day
Wellness, iOS and Android
A recipe and wellness app for a creator with over 1 million subscribers, designed for both platforms simultaneously and reaching number one in its category on the Australian stores at launch.Their ability to see our vision and apply a high attention to detail is [admirable].

NEST Property
Property development, UI/UX and Webflow
Devika Design led UI/UX and the build for a developer needing a site that reflected their design-led approach while staying easy to update. Visually refined, easy to navigate, optimised for showcasing individual projects, and handed over to a team who now run it without developer support. 1 month.
Wholii
NDIS compliance, conversational interface design
Compliance software is usually a wall of forms, and the people filling it in would rather be supporting participants. The design answer was to stop asking staff to fill in forms at all. They talk through a guided conversation, the platform transcribes it and proposes structured answers, and a person reviews and accepts before anything is saved.
Underneath it, role-based access and assignment models mean each person sees only the records their job touches. Onboarding a participant used to take days of document work. It now takes an hour of conversation.
Someone on the team told me we'd made data collection look nice.

Common questions
Yes. We deliver design-only engagements with full handover documentation your in-house or third-party developers can build from, including component specifications and interaction states.
Frequently. We start with the UX audit against your analytics to identify the highest-cost problems before touching visual design, so the work targets revenue rather than taste.
Against the metric that matters to you: conversion rate, activation, retention, task completion time or support volume. We agree the measure and the baseline before we start, so the result is arguable in numbers rather than opinions.
Yes. Devika Design covers brand work alongside product design, which matters when a new product needs a coherent identity from day one.
Two to 6 weeks for most products, depending on scope and how many user types are involved. It runs in parallel with early engineering rather than blocking it.
Yes, designed in against WCAG 2.2 rather than retrofitted. For public sector and enterprise clients we can document conformance level and provide an accessibility statement.
