21! That's the number of potential lives saved with new blood donations at Devika Care's Blood Donor event in April 2016. That brings our total number of potential lives saved through blood donation to a respectable 45.
Devika recognises the importance of supporting the community, and donating blood is just one way for us to do that. We encourage our employees, network, and friends to participate where possible. The issue is very personal for some of our team, having experienced either themselves or a close family member or friend needing blood.
blood donation awareness
Not everyone is aware that blood is surprisingly versatile. The blood you donate can be used for 22 different medical treatments. People of all walks of life need blood products. Some need it to get them through a serious event in their lives, like cancer or a dangerous pregnancy. Others have medical conditions which mean they need blood products regularly to stay alive or be healthy.
There are about five litres of blood in the human body and it's made up of several useful components. You may be able to donate whole blood, plasma or platelets. Each type of blood donation is used for different medical treatments, and your blood type determines the best donation for you to make.
To start donating plasma or platelets you need to have given whole blood in the past two years. For that reason donating blood will remain as one of the most important activities in the Devika Cares Program. Stay tuned for the next Devika blood donor event coming soon.
